Hippies lounge at a firepit on the beach in Gauja, Latvia, 1978. A firepit sits in the foreground at center. On either side of it are vertically oriented sticks in the sand, presumably there to hold a spit for cooking. Logs are oriented in a square to form a perimeter around the firepit. Two of the logs enter frame from the bottom edge. Farther back, a third log extends horizontally between the the other 2 logs. Two hippies relax in the firepit. Both lie with their backs on the ground, each are near the far corners of the firepit. Each rests their feet on the ground with bent knees and rest their heads against the far log. Around them buckets and other cookery litter the firepit. Someone stands behind the person lying down at left. The standing person is only visible from the hips down. Beach extends to the right of the firepit and woodlands encroach on the beach from the left. In the background at right, where the beach and woods meet, a woman sits on the ground, facing camera. Clothes dry in a small tree that stands to the left of her.
