Description

A medal from a county-level Children's and Youths Spartakiads from 1986. These were sports competitions held regularly in the German Democratic Republic to encourage children and youths to be active, and further to scout for potential athletes. The front of the medal reads "KIERS-KINDER-UNDJUGENDSPARTAKIADE", and depicts three figures: a runner, a diver, and a gymnast. The back of the medal depicts three interweaved emblems, which represent (from top left) GDR, Deutscher Turn-und Sportbund, and a combination of the Ernst Thälmann Pioneer Organisation and the Freie Deutsche Jugend. The ribbon is light blue, and has a repeating pattern of 16 short vertical lines and the date "1986".
