Oversized green magazine with red text. This issue focuses on Leningrad as the driving force of the USSR's industrial development. It positions the city as one of the largest industrial centres in the USSR, depicting photographs of the production sites and processes of tractor plants, diesel engines, cameras, motorcycles, the fleet, powerstation, and tramways. Each section is introduced with a short paragraph describing the progress achieved by the specific industry. It notes one site in particular, the "Svetlana" factory, boasting that it, "caught up with america" in its production numbers and quality. Contextual Note: 'USSR in Construction' was a Soviet propaganda magazine published from 1930 to 1941 and briefly in 1949. Printed in the USSR and distributed internationally, it was issued in five languages: Russian, English, German, French, and Spanish (added in 1938). The magazine aimed to promote Soviet achievements abroad through striking photography and avant-garde design.
