Pinczehelyi often appropriates cultural and political symbols. In this artwork he places the Red Star of Communism and the Coca-Cola logo in direct visual relation. The blending of the Coca-Cola logo with the red star suggests that Capitalism and Communism were not as different as they might appear. Both systems employ iconic images to impose their political or economic ideology upon the people. Conversely, the artist could be expressing the unique economic conditions as a result of János Kádár’s policy in the 1980s, which was significantly more culturally tolerant and open to the adoption of free-market economic principles.
