SUMMARY:FRAMEWORKS | Ivana Dama: The Air Belongs to the Children
DESCRIPTION:Sound artist Ivana Dama will use analog synthesizers to create an atmospheric soundscape\, featuring live visual generation.\n\n\nFRAMEWORKS is a new interdisciplinary music series for 2025 designed to take audiences on an adventurous cultural and artistic journey in the state-of-the-art A-Frame Theater of the Glorya Kaufman Community Center\, on the campus of the Wende Museum. The series merges creative disciplines\, from film and dance to poetry and music\, and takes inspiration from the collection and exhibitions of the Wende. \nSound artist and researcher Ivana Dama will use analog synthesizers to create an atmospheric and ambient soundscape\, incorporating custom-made capacitive sensors developed in collaboration with the MIT Center for Bits and Atoms\, together with Neil Gershenfeld and Quentin Bolsee. She will present something she calls “Figures in Air\,” appearing to touch mere air to activate sound. Visuals created live from her instruments will enhance this experiential\, immersive performance. \nIvana Dama was born and raised in Belgrade shortly after the end of the civil war and during the time of NATO bombing. The tension between the former Yugoslavian countries was still undoubtedly present. Even though she was only a young child when the bombing began\, images and sounds of the destruction still clearly permeate her mind. The memories of living in a small shelter with the sounds and vibrations of the air raid sirens have contributed to her interest in using air and sound as a primary medium. Her work\, which includes audio-video installations\, robotics\, web projects\, and music performances\, explores the deep connections between sound\, memory\, and human experience. Ivana holds an MFA in Sculpture from Yale University and a prior degree from UCLA’s School of the Arts and Architecture. \nProgram Schedule \nGarden Reception 1 p.m.—3 p.m. \nGarden DJ Set by Ariana Mamnoon 1 p.m.—2 p.m. \nA-Frame Theater Concert by Ivana Dama 2 p.m.—3 p.m. \nPlease note that the A-Frame Theater doors will close promptly at the start of the performance at 2 p.m. Late entry will not be permitted\, though guests are welcome to enjoy the performance from the garden. \nRSVPs for this free program do not guarantee admission to the A-Frame Theater. Limited seating will be available on a first come\, first served basis. \nAn ADA-accessible entrance to the Glorya Kaufman Community Center is available through the garden gate from the parking lot\, it will open at 12:30 p.m. \nThis event is presented with support from dublab.

SUMMARY:Frameworks | Sadubas: Echoes of Diplomacy: India's Sonic Footprint
DESCRIPTION:An immersive audio/visual performance exploring India’s unique position and contributions during the Cold War.\n\n\nAn immersive audio/visual performance exploring India’s unique position and contributions during the Cold War. \nFRAMEWORKS is a new interdisciplinary music series for 2025 designed to take audiences on an adventurous cultural and artistic journey in the state-of-the-art A-Frame Theater at the Wende Museum’s Glorya Kaufman Community Center. The series merges creative disciplines\, from film and dance to poetry and music\, and takes inspiration from the collection and exhibitions of the Wende. \nJoin Sadubas at the Wende Museum on May 3\, 2025 at 2 p.m. for Echoes of Diplomacy: India’s Sonic Footprint in the Cold War Era. This immersive audio/visual performance will explore India’s unique position and contributions during the Cold War. India\, under the leadership of its first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru\, pursued a policy of non-alignment\, positioning itself as a critical player in the geopolitics of the time that set the stage for India’s current position as a global nuclear superpower. This historical context provides a rich tapestry for a performance that weaves together music\, Bollywood cinema\, and visual storytelling. \nSADUBAS is the collaborative duo of classical tabla artist Robin Sukhadia and electronic producer Ameet Mehta. The two artists grew up together playing Commodore 64 video games\, consuming international films of the 70s and 80s\, and began experimenting with long form beat and rhythms sequences after relocating to San Francisco and acquiring an MPC 2000 and Technics 1200. Robin and Ameet use each other as mediums summoning a hybrid of South Asian classical rhythms\, electronic music\, Bollywood psychedelia with cinematic undertones that construct the sounds of SADUBAS: The Sadhus of Bass. They have performed at a wide range of prestigious venues and institutions across Los Angeles and Southern California\, including The Academy of Motion Pictures Museum\, LACMA\, the Hammer Museum\, and the Bowers Museum. More info at www.sadubas.com. \nProgram Schedule \nGarden Reception 1 p.m.— 3 p.m. \nGarden DJ Set by Discotchari 1 p.m.—2 p.m. \nA-Frame Theater Concert by Sadubas 2 p.m.—3 p.m. If the theater reaches capacity\, guests are still welcome to listen to the performance from the garden. \nPhoto by Mubarak Jafery; Artwork by Hal Al-Kirim \nAn ADA-accessible entrance to the Glorya Kaufman Community Center is available through the garden gate from the parking lot\, it will open at 12:30 p.m.
